Tegalalang rice terraces and palm trees, Ubud
Central & North Bali

Ubud

Rice terraces, jungle valleys and the living heart of Balinese culture

About Ubud

Ubud is where most travellers fall for Bali. The town sits among river gorges and emerald rice fields, with temple ceremonies, gamelan rehearsals and dance performances happening almost every evening. Mornings are for walking the Campuhan Ridge or the Tegalalang terraces before the heat; afternoons for a cooking class, a spa or a long lunch overlooking the jungle.

It is also the best base for day trips into the highlands — the Mount Batur sunrise trek, the water temple of Tirta Empul, waterfalls such as Tegenungan and Tibumana, and white-water rafting on the Ayung River. Allow at least three nights; many guests wish they had stayed longer.
