Travelling to Bali

Where to Stay in Bali

Choosing the right area makes or breaks a Bali holiday. Here's a quick guide to who each area suits best — and why many travellers split their stay.

Split your stay

Bali is bigger and slower to cross than it looks. Rather than day-tripping everywhere from one hotel, most travellers spend a few nights in Ubud for culture and nature, and a few nights on the coast for beaches and sunsets. Add the Nusa islands if you love the ocean.

Area by area

  • Ubud — culture, rice fields, yoga, spas and jungle villas; best for couples, food lovers and wellness
  • Seminyak — boutique shopping, beach clubs and dining; best for couples and friends
  • Canggu — surf, cafés and a young, creative vibe; best for surfers and digital nomads
  • Kuta & Legian — great value, close to the airport and Waterbom; best for families and short stays
  • Jimbaran — calm bay, seafood dinners and luxury resorts; best for couples and families
  • Uluwatu — cliff-top villas, surf and dramatic beaches; best for honeymooners and surfers
  • Nusa Dua — manicured 5★ resorts and calm water; best for families and relaxation
  • Sanur — quiet sunrise beach and gateway to the islands; best for families and older travellers
  • Nusa Penida & Lembongan — cliffs, snorkelling and island life; best for adventurous couples

Villas or resorts?

Private pool villas are one of Bali's great luxuries and are often surprisingly affordable, especially for families or groups sharing. Resorts suit travellers who want kids' clubs, multiple restaurants and on-site activities. Our holiday packages can include either — just ask.
