Dry season: April to October
Expect sunny days, low humidity and temperatures around 27–31°C on the coast. This is the best time for beaches, trekking Mount Batur, diving and island trips. July, August and the Christmas holidays are the busiest and most expensive — book hotels and popular tours early.
Wet season: November to March
Rain usually arrives as heavy afternoon or evening downpours rather than all-day storms, and the landscape turns a vivid green. Hotels are quieter and better value (except at Christmas and New Year). Sea crossings can be rougher and some sunrise treks may be cloudy.
The highlands are cooler
Ubud is a few degrees cooler than the coast, while Kintamani, Bedugul and Munduk can drop to 15°C at night — bring a light jacket for sunrise trips.
Festivals & Nyepi
Balinese ceremonies happen all year. Galungan and Kuningan (every 210 days) fill villages with bamboo penjor poles. Nyepi, the Balinese Day of Silence in March, is unique: for 24 hours the whole island — including the airport — shuts down, and visitors must stay inside their hotel. The night before features spectacular ogoh-ogoh parades.
